Overview:
The BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter w/ Manual Top-Off Fill Port and Optional Soak Feeder Attachment incorporates a state of the art “over-the-wallsurface flow water transfer technology” alongside a combination easy to access “water level fill port” and separate Manual Soak Feeder Attachments or Electronic Soak Feeder Attachments and front mounting port for one of up to four different adjustable Flow Control Manifold Assemblies which can be mounted there to provide inflow to the front habitat area side of the unit.
There is also an expandable Multi-Drain Connection located in the back of the unit which hangs outside the main habitat area and has tie-in capabilities to support one or two drain lines.
Located in the BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter Top Cover, and below the Manual Top-Off Fill and Soak Feeder Attachment Port, there is a pathway through the unit which allows food entering the system to be pre-soaked for a period of time, (normally five seconds or so), prior to its release down below to the submerged food release port which is located on the front of the unit and below the water line for transfer into the habitat chamber area.
This feature is exceptionally important for animals that don’t normally surface feed in their natural settings, but instead find their food submerged within the habitat chamber’s existing water column. (note: Surface feeding can cause an unhealthy air buildup in the bladder of certain animal and fish species over time).
The complete unit is organized in a very user friendly plug and play configuration which is easy to assemble, understand, maintain and control.
The BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter allows for an aquaculturist of any skill level to transfer water, level-off water, and “submerge feed” the habitat area in any number of varied aquatic environments.
Nearly hands free, and produced with state of the art construction and design, the BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter includes all the technology, hardware and science needed to finally remain nearly hands free in the transfer of habitat water from the main habitat area to a separate external filtration unit and then return it back to the main habitat area after filtration.
The fresh, salt or brackish water transfer of water for process filtering, purifying, testing, dosing, pumping, flow and submerged feed control of any aquatic habitat which supports plants and animals in a contained atmosphere is supported by the BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter.
The BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter has unlimited applications in the process and overall precise control over the water transfer, top-off and submerged feeding of plant and animal life within any fresh, brackish or saltwater containment area such as a lake, pond, stream, wetscape, terrarium, sump tank, display tank, refugium and/or aquarium.

SeaHorse RedTop OFB Over Flow Box Filter w/ Manual EPS, Cyclonic Soak Feed Chamber and Submerged Soak Food Release port… – Patent Pending
Specifications:
Before securing the BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter in a suitable location which provides access to the main habitat’s top water column, (usually at the water’s edge), on a stand, bracket, or by straddling the specially designed unit over the top back wall, or the top side wall of a habitat tank or aquarium, remove the unit’s Overflow Box Top Cover w/ Manual Fill & Soak Feeder Attachment Port and set it aside.
Connect the BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter Supply and Drain Line to the unit by using two Supply Line Clamp(s). Tighten the first Tube Clamp in place by securing it to one end of the Supply Line at the supply nozzle on the Sump Pump head.
Carefully twist/push-on snugly the other end of the Supply Line to the unit’s supply connection, (this is the smaller of the two connections which are located on the bottom side of the Box Bottom. Tighten the second Supply Line Clamp in place via the screwdriver slot provided on the rear back face of the unit.
Likewise, secure the main Drain Line in place by using an additional Supply Line Clamp to secure one end of the Drain Line atop any existing sump inflow connection and then carefully twist/push-on snugly the other end to the first of two larger connections which are located on the bottom side of the Overflow Box Bottom, (these connections are specifically designed to be press fit only), no pipe clamp is required for these connections.
Having two drain connections at this location allows for the unit’s expansion to additional dual drainage if needed, it also creates a “redundancy” type of framework for future use which utilizes a multi-sock configuration that will protect the system’s main habitat area from ever overfilling should any single drain fail during use.
Now, with the Supply Line and main Drain Line connections securely in place, lower the Overflow Box Bottom into place so that it sits levelly on both the inside and the outside of the habitat chamber area, (front inflow slots should automatically reside 60% submerged within the habitat chamber’s upper water column while the unit faces forward so that the inflow skimmed surface water of the habitat area can then enter the unit freely and initial water processing can begin to take place).
Prime the system; with the Overflow Box Top Cover still removed, plug in and switch on the Sump Pump. Use two fingers to pull out the Air-Control Valve Tubing that is located atop the Overflow Box Bottom and turn the knob that controls the Air-Control Valve counter-clockwise so that it is open and no longer seated. Next, place the free end of the Air-Control Valve Tubing on the receiving end of the Hand Held Prime Ball and squeeze to draw-in and make sure that the air flow in the tube is not obstructed and completely free to travel from the Air-Control Valve to the end of the Air-Control Valve Tubing.
Use a cup or small container to transfer a small amount of water into the rear drain chamber of the Overflow Box Bottom, (this is the side with the two drain connections visible). Once the water level rises past the rear drain box’s main drain-lip, and then begins to overflow into the main drain-pipe itself, start to draw in air from the end of the Air-Control Valve Tubing again, do this steadily until the Over-the-wall-flow-system is filled with water entirely. This will be evident when a solid stream of water appears at the beginning of the Air-Control Valve Tubing near the Air-Control Valve.
Once a solid stream of water is evident at the beginning of the Air-Control Valve Tubing, close the Air-Control Valve by turning it clockwise until it is fully seated and no more water can be drawn into the Air-Control Valve Tubing.
Disconnect the Palm Held Prime Bulb and return the Air-Control Valve Tubing back to it’s original position within the open area in the rear of the unit. Now that the system is primed, full system running, touch the tip of your finger around all of the external connections and inspect them for seeps or leakage.
Verify that the water is flowing unhindered from the main habitat area and through the front slots of the Overflow Box Bottom. Follow the water’s path beyond the Over-the-Wall-flow-system and down into the drain, and then finally, into the External Purification System.
Congratulations, the system is now up and running, periodically check to see if any oxygen has accumulated in the the Over-the-Wall-flow-system by using the above priming test procedure, use the Air-Control Valve and Air-Control Valve Tubing to (bleed) or remove any oxygen in the system if it is ever present.
The BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box Filter is designed to automatically “self prime” and then restart again by itself (without manual priming or bleeding) should the Sump Pump fail for any reason or if the power to the Sump Pump should go off and later turn back on.
If for some reason the overflow system should get clogged by debris or stop flowing, it is suggested that two or more of the Overflow Box Filters be used in tandem (more than one location) to create a “redundant” system, (if one of the overflow boxes fail, the other should provide sufficient drainage until the failure of the first unit can be addressed). Here, we would like to make a note that (pump-head flow) which enters the system at habitat area (power-head) elevation, should not exceed beyond 80% of a single unit’s full dual-drain capacity.
After being continuously skimmed, the unfiltered water from the main habitat area travels via the top skim slot openings in the Overflow Box Bottom and into the front of the overflow box itself. Here it is siphoned over the Over-the-Wall-flow-system tube wall construction, and then continues through to the the main return drain(s) which are located on the bottom rear side of the Overflow Box Bottom before final draining.
The Overflow Box Filter is capable of non-stop surface skimming which in turn removes all contaminants from the top layers of the habitat area’s water column before then transferring that used water to the Sock /(s) Drain Tie-in for processing and revitalization.
The Overflow Box Filter prevents the normal build up of harmful contaminants such as algae blooms, nitrates, nitrites, PH imbalances, ditrus and biological waste that regularly accumulate in the habitat area and often offset the short term stability in water quality of the entire system, this aquatic load frequently makes the habitat containment area itself detrimental to the plants and animals that reside in, on or around it.
Once the un-filtered water passes into the intake of the external purification system, it is now ready for external process filtering.
After Filtering the water, and just as fast as the external sump pump can pump the newly filtered water back up to the unit via the Supply Line, the in-flow will travel back over the Over-the-Wall-flow-system and to the unit’s front mounting port where one of up to four different adjustable Flow Control Manifold Assemblies can be selected to provide the appropriate flow and direction of flow from within the main habitat area, the water is recirculated again and again down through the external purification system for its reprocessing before once more being returned.
This circulation process via the continues twenty-four, seven. Sturdy and well built, the BioTrap RedTop SeaHorse High Flow Overflow Box with Manual Top-Off Fill and Soak Feeder Attachment Port will run quietly and efficiently in the background while providing all levels of aquaculturists with the piece of mind they deserve.
